I tell you–saying you’re going to rest, making it a goal, is no joke! I heard from several of you when I posted about rest–that I had trouble actually doing it. Well, I’m a believer in not giving up….so, this summer I am on a journey to rest.

Now don’t get me wrong, I haven’t become rich and retired from working; I still have to clock in a day’s work and I have some writing projects happening too. But when I’m not doing the work I’ve scheduled for the day, I’m going to focus on rest.

For Mental Wellness Month, I participated in a discussion about rest with the beautiful women in Detroit (I recap the conversation in my May newsletter). Rest does not mean sleeping; rest means resting the mind (not doing all that extra thinking or stressing! try talking about something fun or that you’re passionate about NOT your issues or the next assignment you have); rest means refreshing the soul–what makes your heart sing? Do it–over and over. And for some of us, that could be work, but I am scheduling work (as much as possible) so if it’s not work time, I’m not doing the fun work I get to do; I’m doing something else.

I just ordered a latch hook kit, have scheduled two walking dates with friends; and I’m grabbing my coffee to sit outside and soak up some slightly chilly weather in Chicago (yep, we’re still waiting…but we got a taste of that good sun and it’s coming! Small update: I think it’s here as we are getting into the 90s the day I post this!) See the video of me sitting outside, soaking up the rays.

What are you doing for rest? How are you restoring your soul?

And if you’d like a bit of an update each month, subscribe to my newsletter. I talk about books, publishing, life, balance, and more…

How do you rest?
